Workshops

Several workshops on production of documentary films with renowned documentary authors like the Albanian directors Fatmir Koci and Rikard Ljarja, and the Macedonian Vladimir Blazevski, which treated specific issues of the production like basic elements of preproduction, production and postproduction, screenplay development etc. The methods are usually hands on and the participants have an opportunities to work practically on specific exercises, small assignments like developing a story, preparing a storyboard, filming and editing, under supervision of these experienced authors. The workshops were open for external participants (they were not exclusive for MAC team) and there was always high interest for participation, both by individuals and institutions (local TVs and the South East European University).
Similar workshop on production of video arts or short experimental films has been organized with the Americans Skip Bloomberg (pioneer video artist) and Antonio Mendosa. The participants were working in groups under the general theme “My Hero”, on stories of remarkable individuals, the stories that serve to remind us that we all have the potential to overcome great obstacles and achieve our dreams by following in the footsteps of our heroes.
The visiting lecturers usually present some of their own documentary films in front of a wider public in Tetovo and discuss about them with the participant and the audience.
In the frames of the project small door a photographic workshop with the Macedonian photographer Robert Jankuloski took place in 2006, with participation of some twenty, mostly young photography enthusiasts. After receiving a basic instruction on photography in technical and conceptual aspects, the participants were working independently on themes that they choose themselves (mostly documentary, street photography) and created a body of work, out of which they together with the trainer chose the best photographs and presented them at an exhibition in MAC. The exhibition itself was particularly well attended.
On several occasion MAC team delivered basic trainings on how to write screenplay, how to use the video camera and how to edit. Most of the participants were students from both Tetovo universities.  Beside the theoretical knowledge they had an opportunity to gain some practical experiences by working on exercises with the video equipment, which was very motivating and valuable for them.
